After over 57 years of operation the Harshman Fellowships Society will be closing in 2012 and directing its attention towards eight endowment funds, seven of which are matched by funding from the Ontario provincial government. The Society is excited to announce that the Board of Directors has approved the establishment of matching fund endowments at University of Guelph, University of Ontario Institute of Technology, McMaster University, Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Victoria University and a special endowment at the St. Therese Institute in Saskatchewan. As well, additional funds have been donated to a previously established Humber College Bursary.

The Vision of the Society was achieved through the granting of awards and funding of special projects. Over the past fifty-seven years, the Society invested in the ideals of more than 500 students across the country. Awards funded through the Harshman Fellowships Society included: Post Graduate Scholarships at various universities, the Indigenous Studies PhD Award at Trent University, the Health Informatics Award at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, the David Bell Award at Humber College, the Merit Bursary Award to high school students throughout the Toronto region, and the Bruce B. King Award to elementary and high school students in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Society also funded a number of special projects, examples of which were the Student Volunteer Award at the University of Guelph and the Arnolds Balins Award at the University of Toronto.

The Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers for their continued support. The legacy of the Harshman family will continue through the perpetual endowments in the names of family and friends

Après plus de 57 années de service, la Société des bourses Harshman mettra fin à ses activités en 2012 pour se réorienter vers huit fonds de dotation, dont sept seront jumelés par le gouvernement provincial de l’Ontario. La Société est fière d’annoncer que le Bureau de direction a approuvé l’établissement de fonds de dotation jumelés à l’Université de Guelph, la University of Ontario Institute of Technology, l’Université McMaster, l’Université Carleton, l’Université d’Ottawa, l’Université Victoria ainsi qu’une dotation spéciale à l’Institut Ste-Thérèse en Saskatchewan. De plus, une contribution supplémentaire a été versée à un fonds de bourse déjà existant à Humber College.

La vision de la Société a été atteinte par l’octroi de bourses et le financement de projets spéciaux. Au cours des cinquante-sept dernières années, la Société a investi dans les idéaux de plus de 500 étudiants à travers le pays. Parmi les bourses financées par la Société des Bourses Hashman, on compte des bourses d’études supérieures à plusieurs universités, la bourse en études autochtones à l’Université Trent, la bourse en informatique de la santé à la University of Ontario Institute of Technology, la bourse David Bell à Humber College, la bourse de mérite destinée aux étudiants des écoles secondaires du grand Toronto et la bourse Bruce B. King pour les étudiants des niveaux primaire et secondaire à Winnipeg, au Manitoba. La Société a aussi financé un certain nombre de projets spéciaux comme le Student Volunteer Award à l’Université de Guelph et la bourse Arnolds Balins à l’Université de Toronto.

Le Bureau de direction profite de cette occasion pour remercier les nombreux bénévoles de leur appui continu. L’héritage de la famille Harshman se poursuivra travers les dotations perpétuelles faites au nom de la famille et des amis.
